HISTORY

Treasure Coast Music Teachers Association

was founded in 1990 by Jo Ann Grosso and Cynthia Kessler.  The first meeting was held at Max’s Music in Jensen Beach on September 14, 1990, with Cynthia Kessler serving as President.  Other Officers were Vice President- Jo Ann Grosso, Secretary- Elaine Evans, Treasurer- Brenda Waldbauer, Programs- Sheila Thomas & Jo Ann Grosso.  Members present were Brenda Waldbauer, Rita Vallis, Sheila Thomas, Jeannie Menninger, Charles Kuhn, Cindy Kessler, Gaye Herndon, Jo Ann Grosso, Maxine Graber and Elaine Evans.

 

The first TCMTA Music-Thon was held at the Treasure Coast Mall on March 9, 1991, with the students raising over $6,000.  One-half was donated to Hibiscus House and one-half was donated to the Scholarship Fund.  Celebrity emcees included Martin County School Superintendent, Frank & Mary Brogan, WQCS-FM Announcer Roger White, Executive Director of Martin County Arts Council Mary Shaw, Martin County Commissioner Mary Dawson, and South Fork High School Principal Sebastian Torres.  There was publicity from both the Palm Beach Post and the Stuart News.

 

The first TCMTA Student Enrichment Day was held at Morningside Church in Port St. Lucie on November 23, 1991.  Frank Glazer, concert pianist and former Artist Faculty at Eastman School of Music, Artist in Residence at Bates College in Maine presented a Master Class with nine piano students participating.
